Price, Sawczuk, and Moscardelli Earn NEWMAC All-Conference Honors

Price, Moscardelli, and Sawczuk Earn NEWMAC All-Conference Honors Babson Park, Mass. - November 10, 2009 - Three members of the Springfield College women's soccer team were selected to the New England Women's and Men's All Conference Team on Tuesday morning. Courtney Price was named a first-team selection, while Caitlin Sawczuk and Jackie Moscardelli were tabbed second-team honorees.

The Pride came up just short of defending its conference crown as they lost in the NEWMAC Championship contest to MIT, 1-0. Springfield finished its 2009 season with a 12-5-3 record.

For Price, Sawczuk, and Moscardelli, it is the first time they have earned women's soccer all-conference accolades.

Price moved back to the defensive third this season and anchored Springfield's defense. A tall and physical defender who shut down opponents throughout the season, Price also made her presence felt on the offensive side of the ball as she totaled four goals and three assists this season. As for her defensive efforts, the Enfield, Conn. native led Springfield to just a 0.86 goal against average as SC posted eight shutouts this year.

Sawczuk was the Pride's primary offensive weapon this season and finished second on the team in scoring with five goals and 14 points. The senior co-captain from Plainville, Conn. was the focal point of many team's defenses and held and distributed the ball up top for Springfield this year. In league play, Sawczuk finished with two goals and four assists.

A product of Weymouth, Mass., Moscardelli continued to make a difference all over the field for Springfield. An athletic midfielder who controlled play for the Pride this season, Moscardelli finished with two goals and three assists in 2009. A scrappy and competitive player, Moscardelli scored both of her goals and recorded two of her assists in conference play.
