Big Second Half Lifts Women's Soccer Past Coast Guard, 5-0

Springfield, Mass. - September 18, 2010 - The Springfield College women's soccer team broke open a scoreless game as it found the back of the net twice in the opening 3:31 of the second half en route to a 5-0 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest.

Springfield snapped its two game slide to even its record at 3-3, 1-0 in league play, while the Bears drop to 3-3, 0-1 this year.

The Pride's Ashley McFarlane put Springfield on the board just 1:03 into the second half as she finished a centering pass from Sara Dalton. Dalton found the back of the net herself just 2:29 later she she corralled a Katie Mantie cross and ripped a shot from close range for Springfield's second tally.

Mantie then scored a goal of her own at the 66:05 mark as she buried a feed from Jenelle Jahoda. Just 50 seconds later, Erica Donnelly got in on the scoring as she flicked a shot from 10 yards out into the back of the net.

Springfield's final tally came in the 73rd minute as Ali Dalton netted her first goal of the season, which was assisted by Amber Thornton after an impressive cross from the right flank.

Coast Guard held Springfield off the scoreboard in the first half, despite the Pride peppering Mary Mills with 11 shots.

Erin Greenstein earned the shutout victory as she and her defense did not face a shot the entire afternoon. Mills posted 15 saves between the pipes for the visitors. Springfield took 28 shots on the day.

Springfield returns to action on Wednesday evening when it wraps up its three-game homestand against Amherst, who is currently ranked 15th in the country. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
