Ryan Tatreau Box Score

Springfield, Mass. - March 25, 2009 - Keene State piled up eight runs in the first three innings and never looked back as it defeated the Springfield College baseball team, 17-2, in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon.

The Pride, which has lost five straight, drops to 3-9 on the season, while Keene State improves to 7-6.

The Owls jumped out to an 8-0 lead after plating four runs in both the second and third innings. Keene State scored its first two runs of the game in the second inning as Bobby Doyon and Tyler DiPrato crushed back-to-back homers off starter Ryan White. The Owls continued to hit White hard the rest of the inning as they added two more runs off the bat of Jeff Perkins to take a 4-0 lead through two innings.

White, who lasted just 2.1 innings, continued to have trouble with the Owls in the third as he once again gave up four runs in the frame. Keene’s Cody Callahan highlighted the inning as he hammered a two-run homer to right field for the final two runs.

Keene used another big inning to put the game away as it plated seven runs in the sixth, opening up a 16-run advantage.

The Pride was able to score its only runs of the game in the bottom of the ninth as Mike Robilotto blasted a double into left center field, scoring Joe Kropa and Ben Stephenson.

A bright spot on the mound for the day was Teddy Kusiak who threw 2.2 innings after coming in for White. Kusiak allowed just one earned run while giving up two hits and striking out five, including fanning the side in the fourth.

Callahan and Doyon each had three RBI on the day for the Owls, who played 21 players in the game.

Springfield returns to action as it wraps up a three-game homestand against local-foe Westfield State on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
