Wrestling Remains No. 1 in the Latest NEWA Division III Poll

Steve Flathers Bristol, R.I.. -- February 7, 2011 -- The Springfield College wrestling team remains ranked No. 1 in the latest New England Wrestling Association Division III poll. SC is ahead of second-ranked Wesleyan by 12 points.

Springfield is currently 11-5 in duals on the 2010-2011 season. It is in the number one spot with 139 points and received 13 of 14 first-place votes in the latest poll.

On February 3, in the City Meet, SC first defeated their counterparts from Western New England College, 35-6. The Pride then came back in match # 3 and defeated AIC 28-9.

Currently in second in the NEWA poll is Wesleyan University (15-3-1) with 127 points and the lone remaining first-place vote. Williams College (9-8-1) is in third with 101 points.

The rest of the top 10 in the latest NEWA poll includes Plymouth State (9-3) with 99 points, Johnson & Wales (12-6-1) with 83 points, Bridgewater State (8-8-1) with 71 points, Rhode Island College (10-8) with 65 points, Roger Williams (7-12) with 39 points, U.S. Coast Guard (1-14) with 21 points, and the University of Southern Maine (4-11) with 12 points.

Others receiving votes included Trinity and WPI.

Springfield College will be competing in its next meet on Saturday, February 12 at 12 pm at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, R.I. Also competing will be Plymouth State and Trinity
