Women's Track and Field Places Seventh at New England Division III Championships

Cambridge, Mass. - February 19, 2011 - The Springfield College women's track and field team had a very successful weekend as it placed seventh out of 22 teams at the New England Division III Championships.

Kelly Curtis opened the weekend up with winning the pentathlon with a NCAA provisionally qualifying score of 3,240 points. Curtis also provisionally qualified in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.55 in the prelims.

Laurie Jenkins also had a strong weekend as she took fifth in the 55 meters in 7:73 and eighth in the 200 in 26.53.

In the 400, Gabby Gaudreault took fifth in 59.88, with teammate Katie Schumann finished in sixth place in 60.17.

Teammate Jen Kapinos ran her best time of year in the 600, a 1:40.87, as she qualified for Open New England's and the ECAC Championships. Also running her best time of the her in the 1,000 with Michelle Mirti, who took eighth with an ECAC qualifying time of 3:05.95.

As for Springfield's relays, the 4x200 relay team of Crystal Davis, Gaudreault, Schumann, and Jenkins took third with a time of 1:47.71. Also taking third was the l 4x400 relay team of Davis, Schumann, Gaudreault, and Joy Jennifer, as they clocked in at 4:06.93.
