Women's Cross Country Starts 2011 Season at Smith Invitational

Northampton, Mass. - September 10, 2011 - The Springfield College women's cross country team opened up the 2011 season by racing in the Smith Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Pride placed 7th out of 16 teams in the event.

As a team, Springfield scored 191 points to finish in the middle of the pack. Wellesley College won the Invitational with 29 points, closely followed by the Coast Guard Academy's 34 points.

Katie Burns ran Springfield's fastest time of the day as she placed 29th in 21:47.25. Michelle Mirti ran the 5k course in 22:09.60 to finish in 43rd, while Sarah Knop took 47th in 22:15.93. Other runners who scored points for Springfield on the afternoon included Nicole DeCristoforo (22:22.21) and Alyssa Kagenski (22:48.03).

Up next for Springfield will be the UMass Dartmouth Invitational this upcoming Saturday.
