Cambridge, Mass. -- January 16, 2011 -- The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team split a pair of dual meet contests at MIT this afternoon, defeating the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 184.5 to 115.5, while falling to MIT, 201-99. The SC divers, led by Jennifer Thompson, had an excellent performance as a group.
This event completed a long weekend in which SC defeated NYU, 174-126, the day before at SC's Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Thompson had a good day, winning the 3-meter diving event with a score of 287.95 points. She also placed second in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 282.90 points.
SC also finished 3-4 in the 1-meter behind Thompson. Placing third was Courtney Keefe with 273.95 points. In fourth was Paige Rhodes at 242.95.
In the 3-meter, SC also placed 3-4-5, with Keefe taking third (274.55), Rhodes fourth (261.90), and Kyra Breitweiser in fifth (255.20).
Springfield finished with two other first-places. They included Caroline Kosciusko in the 200 free at 1:58.45, and Kellie Pennington in the 50 free at 24.53 seconds.
Up next, Springfield will compete at Williams on Saturday, January 22 at 1 pm.
