Coyle Places Fourth in Long Jump To Earn All-America Honors

Delaware, Ohio - May 26, 2011 - Junior Kevin Coyle finished fourth in the long jump at the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships to earn All-America honors.

Coyle, who won the national championship in the long jump at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in March, continued to excel on the national level with his performance on Thursday. On his first of six jumps on the day, the Bradford, N.H. native jumped his farthest, a distance of 7.12m (23-04.50). The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Athlete of the Year was seeded third in the long jump with a qualifying mark of 7.40 meters.

Paul Turner from LaVerne was crowned the long jump national champion with a distance of 7.17 (23-06.25) as the top four competitors were separated by 1 3/4 inches. In fact, Turner edged out Kellen McCrary from Wisconsin-La Crosse by just .25 inches for the title.

Coyle will compete once again on Saturday at 12:00 pm in the triple jump, where he is seeded fifth after reaching a qualifying distance of 14.98 meters.

Also competing on Thursday was senior Nickel Hay, who ran in the 200 meter dash. The NEWMAC Men's Track Athlete of the Year ran a time of 22.47 as he finished 21st in the competition. The Norwalk, Conn. native was seeded 13th in a field of 22 with a qualifying time of 21.69.
