Men's Lacrosse Advances in Pilgrim League Tournament With 17-6 Semifinal Win Over Babson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 2, 2007 – Springfield College sophomore attack Jake Beebe (Sudbury, Mass.) totaled a game-high seven points of offense on four goals and three assists as the No. 2 Pride rolled past No. 3 Babson College, 17-6, this afternoon in the semifinals of the Pilgrim Lacrosse League Tournament at Benedum Field.

SC (8-8) advances to face No. 1 Western New England College (WNEC) in a rematch of last year's championship game. The Pride will play at WNEC on Saturday afternoon, May 5th, in a 4:30 p.m. start. The Golden Bears advanced to the final game with a 20-5 win over Lasell College. Last year, SC upset No. 1 WNEC in the championship game in a 12-11 double overtime thriller.

SC opened today’s semifinal game on a 6-1 run in the first 15 minutes of play and never looked back, leading 6-2 at the half, 14-3 after three quarters, and 17-6 for the final total. Junior midfielder Tyler Montgomery (Brunswick, Me.) equaled Beebe’s game-high of four goals. Junior midfielder Greg Welch (Peabody, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Chris Jez (Somers, Conn.) each added two scores, as Jez also racked up an assist. Beebe and freshman attack Kyle Gable (Somers, Conn.) led the Pride in assists with three apiece.

Babson College (7-7) sophomore midfielder Matt Harrington paced the Beavers on offense with two goals. Freshman attack Luke Biggins chipped in with one goal and one assist, and sophomore goalkeeper Matt Owen made 19 saves in net for Babson.

For SC, senior netminder Kyle Cloutier (South Hadley, Mass.) improved his record to 6-8 overall on the season in stopping 14 Beaver shots. Cloutier saved seven Babson shots on goal alone in the second stanza.
