The Pride was able to control the doubles as it won two of three. Springfield’s No.1 team, consisting of the two juniors Amy Shaw and Kyla Walgren, was able to hold off the pesky Alanna Dick and Clair Oblamski of Smith in a close score of 9-8 (7-4 in the tiebreaker). For match No. 2 of the doubles, senior Funmi Olowookere and freshman Sam Carney of the Pride dominated Maggie Steiner and Nikki Anderson in an 8-3 win. Smith was able to take back some momentum in the third match, defeating the Pride, 8-4.
Smith’s momentum carried over to the singles where it wore down the Pride, winning four of its six matches. The Pride's Sam Carney at No. 2 and freshman Vanessa Senecal at No. 6 were the only victors for the Pride in singles. Carney handled Smith’s Nikki Anderson, winning 6-4, 6-1. Senecal also handled Smith’s Eunice Zhao, winning 6-1, 5-7, (10-6 super tiebreaker).
Up next for the Pride is Roger Williams on Thursday April 15 at Springfield’s own Appleton Courts at 4 pm.
