Women's Cross Country Takes Third At NEWMAC Championships

Boston, Mass. - October 31, 2009 - Senior Amanda DiPaolo paced the Springfield College women's cross country team to a third place finish at the 2009 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships held Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park in Boston.

DiPaolo raced across the finish line in 19:05, just thirty-three seconds behind race champion Maria Monks of MIT, for her second consecutive third place finish in the NEWMAC Championships.

MIT won its third straight conference title, taking four of the top five finishes among individuals. Second place Wellesley was fifty-seven points behind (75), followed by the Pride (113). Coast Guard (117), Smith (133), WPI (163), Babson (201), Wheaton (205), Mount Holyoke (248), withClark (260) rounding out the field.

All of the Pride's runners that scored placed in the top 50. Behind DiPaolo was Lacey Cartier, who finished in 13th with a time of 20:04. Alex Mustardo finished 32nd in 21:11, while Molly Powell (44th, 21:31), and Caitlin Crosby (45th, 21:34) rounded out the Pride's scoring.

Both DiPaolo and Cartier finished in the top 14 in the race and, as a result, were named to the all-conference team.

Springfield next competes in the ECAC Division III Championships on Saturday, November 7 in Williamstown, Mass.
