SPRINGFIELD, Mass., November 11, 2006 – The Williams College men and the Middlebury College women took home team titles today at the 2006 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s New England Regional Cross Country Championships hosted by Springfield College at the Veterans Golf Course in Springfield, Mass.
Williams College finished with a team total of 57 points to win the title as three different Ephs crossed the finish line within the top seven. Stephen Wills finished second overall for Williams with a time of 25:48.1, as Brendan Christian was right behind him for the Ephs in third place at 25:48.8. Williams’ Mike Davitian finished seventh overall out of 309 total runners with a time of 25:56.2.
Middlebury College finished with a team total of 73 points to win the title, edging out second-place team finisher Amherst College (78 points). All five Panthers crossed the finish line in the top 25 for Middlebury, led by Andrea Giddings in sixth place individually out of 321 runners with a time of 22:01.2.
Trinity College’s Hunter Norte finished first individually for the men, completing the 8k course in a time of 25:37.9, good for a pace of 5:10. Bowdoin’s Archie Abrams and Middlebury’s James Butcher rounded out the top five men’s individual finishers, completing the course in times of 25:50.0 and 25:52.8, respectively.
Wesleyan University’s Ellen Davis finished first individually for the women, conquering the 6k course in 21:29.3, good for a 5:46 pace. Keene State’s Breanne Lucey finished second at 21:37.9, followed by Tufts University’s Catherine Beck (21:50.0), Colby College’s Karen Prisby (21:50.4), and Amherst College’s Heather Wilson (22:00.3) to round out the top five.
The Williams College and Bowdoin College men will represent the New England Region at the 2006 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships next Saturday, November 18th, hosted by Wilmington College in West Chester, Ohio. The women will be represented by Middlebury College and Amherst College.
