Men's Golf Competes at the NEIGA's on Cape Cod

Alex Brown Springfield, Mass. -- October 18, 2010 -- Craig DiFranco of the Springfield College men's golf team fired a 76 today and is currently tied for 16th place as an individual after the first round of the 76th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships at the Captains Course in Brewster, Mass. on Cape Cod. As a team, SC is in 19th place of 37 competing teams, with the championships scheduled to be completed on Tuesday.

The Captains Course is 6,687 yards in length and is a par-72.

The University of Rhode Island is in first place as a team after one round with a nine-over par score of 297. The Pride find themselves at +36 with a score of 324 in 19th place. This is a championship where schools from all divisions compete together. SC is in ninth place among Division III teams.

DiFranco, a senior captain from East Longmeadow, Mass., had nines of 36 and 40 for his 76. His four-over par score tied him for 16th place. Others whose scores counted for SC included junior Tom Sangeloty (Unionville, Conn.) with a 79 (tied for 54th), freshman Mike Nowakowski (East Hampton, Conn.) at 84 (tied for 113th), and junior Alex Brown (Portland, Me.) at 85 (tied for 122nd). Sangeloty shot a 37 on the front nine.
