DiPaolo Snags NEWMAC Runner of the Week For Second Time in 2008
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- September 22, 2008
-- After leading the women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish this weekend at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational, Amanda DiPaolo
has been selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Athlete of the Week.
For the Garrison, N.Y. native, this is the second time this season that she has been selected as the top runner in the conference. She previously picked up the accolade on Sept. 8 when she finished first as the Amherst Invitational.
Out of the 41 teams running in the event, Springfield recorded an overall finish of fifth place (153), behind the likes of MIT (67), Amherst (88), Brandeis (130), and Colby (132).
DiPaolo continued to have a great start to her 2008 season as she crossed the finish line in 18:22, averaging a 6:28 mile over the 5k course. Out of the 310 runners, DiPaolo finished in third, and the second collegiate runner to finish.

Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
