AMHERST, Mass., September 20, 2005 - Springfield College freshman keeper Sue Jenney (Agawam, Mass.) made four saves in goal, but it was Amherst College that defeated the Pride this afternoon (Sept. 20), 2-0, in non-conference action.
In the past three matches for SC, the newcomer, Jenney, has played extremely well in goal for the Pride as the keeper has made an impressive 18 saves. Jenney has already compiled two shutouts this season to go along with a 2-1-1 record.
Amherst (3-0-1) scored early in this one, as freshman midfielder Natalie Ferraiolo scored her first career collegiate goal just before the seven-minute mark (6:50). The two squads battled through the next 60 minutes of play, as SC sophomore forward Nicole Hanewich (Cumberland, R.I.) almost netted the equalizer. Hanewich's shot, at the 27:04-mark, missed the net by just a few inches, bouncing off the top crossbar.
Amherst junior forward Amy Armstrong put the game away in the 68th minute of play as she scored off a feed from junior Sarah Shea.
SC falls to 3-2-2 overall on the season as it will next open up its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) season with a home match against Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon, September 24, in a 1:00 p.m. start.
