Three Members of Women's Gymanstics Collect NCGA Senior Scholar Award

NCGA Seniors Springfield, Mass. – March 24, 2014 Three members of the Springfield College women’s gymnastics team were honored for their success in the classroom by the National Collegiate Gymnastics Assosciation (NCGA), receiving the 2014 NCGA Senior Scholar-Athlete Award.

Keelin O’Connell (Pembroke, Mass.), Jennifer Habeeb (Peabody, Mass.) and Sarah Perry (Collinsville, Illi.) all received the award, honoring the hard work they have put into the classroom over the course of their careers with the Pride.

O’Connell, a sports biology major and a co-captain of the team was one of a program-record 10 athletes to travel to the NCGA Championships held at Ithaca College this past weekend. The senior was the top finisher for the Pride on the beam, posting a 9.400.

Habeeb, a business major and a four-year member of the women’s gymnastics team specializing in the floor exercise turned in an impressive performance at the ECAC Championships on March 8, registering a season-best 9.275.

Perry, an occupational therapy major and also a four-year member of the Pride had a successful senior season, posting a season-best 9.125 mark on the uneven bars during their “Teal Meet” held at Springfield College every year to raise awareness for gynecological cancer.
