Malone Named NEWMAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Ryan Malone Springfield, Mass - October 15, 2013 - Ryan Malone (Chicopee, Mass.) was chosen as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season.

The senior helped lead Springfield to its seventh-straight win this week, the most since becoming a Division III team in 1995. He tallied a goal and two assists in wins over Framingham State and WPI, scoring the game-winner against conference rival WPI.

Malone's team-high eight goals this season ranks him fourth in the NEWMAC, but first among all defensive players in the conference. He anchors a defense that has allowed just six goals through 13 games this season. Springfield's offense has outscored opponents 37-6 in that span.

Springfield will travel to Babson on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. start.
