KINGSTON, R.I. – November 10, 2007 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team fell to the University of Rhode Island, 176-121, on Saturday afternoon.
Andrew Blakesley (West Springfield, Mass.) placed first in the 1000 yard freestyle in 10:09.35 and second in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:57.52.
Justin Zook (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) second in 100 yard backstroke (57.06) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:03.44), while teammate Ryan Mackstutis (Torrington, Conn.) record second-place finishes in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:01.71), the 200 yard breaststroke (2:18.48), and the 200 yard IM (2:06.57).
Matt Manoni (Brookfield, Conn.)touched second in the 50 yard freestyle in 22.32 and second in the 100 yard freestyle in 50.17.
In the 1-meter diving event, the Pride captured the top two spots as Matt Fitzgerald (Pelham, N.H.) won the event (240.00), while Ben Casavant (Acton, Mass.) placed second (238.95).
On the 3-meter board, Brian Sobol (Stratford, Conn.) picked up a first-place finish with a score of 252.22. Fitzgerald (235.27) finished second and Casavant (231.32) finished third as the Pride swept the event.
Springfield returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Wheaton at 1:00 pm.
