Field Hockey Edges Wellesley, 4-3, Behind Brooker Hat Trick

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 1, 2005 – Springfield College senior forward Sarah Brooker (Auburn, Maine) scored three times to rally the No. 10 Pride past Wellesley College, 4-3, in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey action on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 1) at Benedum Field.

The win gives SC its sixth-straight victory as the Pride currently boast a 9-1 overall record and a 2-0 conference mark. The co-captain, Brooker, has been on fire as of late for SC, scoring five goals in the Pride's past two contests. With the overtime victory, SC improves to 5-1 in one-goal games this season and 4-0 in overtime matches. Brooker has recorded a team-best three game-winning goals in her senior season thus far.

Senior forward Lindsay Holiday scored twice for Wellesley as the Blue (6-3, 1-1 NEWMAC) took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Midway through the second half, however, senior midfielder Jaclyn Galligan (Hopedale, Mass) set up senior midfielder Alisha Miner (Sanbomton, N.H.)to tie the game at two apiece.

With four minutes left in the game, the Pride took the lead with an unassisted score from Brooker. The lead was short-lived, although, as Wellesley junior forward Lydia Parzych countered two minutes later to send the game into overtime.

Brooker recorded the game-winner for her hat trick on an unassisted goal in the ninth minute of overtime (78:38).

The Pride next face a big match-up with the No. 5 SUNY Cortland Red Dragons tomorrow afternoon, October 2, in a non-conference game at 1:00 p.m. on Benedum Field.
