Mount Holyoke is now 4-6 overall, 3-4 in NEWMAC play. Springfield is 1-8 overall, 1-6 in league play.
The match began with doubles, with the Lyons capturing all three matches. The tightest match of the afternoon came at No. 1 doubles, going to a tiebreaker. The Lyons came through as the duo of freshman Nahrhee Han (Albertson, N.Y.) and junior Natalie Hsiang (Pittsford, N.Y.) defeated SC junior Amy Shaw (Walpole, Mass.) and junior Kyla Walgren (West Hartford, Conn.), 9-8 with a tiebreaker score of 7-5. The Lyons captured the other doubles matches by scores of 8-6 and 8-4.
In singles, the Lyons played very well in winning five of the six matches. SC's only win came at No. 3 singles, where freshman Sam Carney (Franklin, Mass.) defeated sophomore Sarah Moore (Plano, Tex.), 6-1, 6-4. Carney lost just one match at No. 3 singles all season-long.
Most of this match was played outdoors, but during the middle of singles play, the match was moved indoors to the Field House within the Wellness and Recreation Complex due to rain.
Singles winners for Mount Holyoke came from Han at No. 1, Hsiang at No. 2, senior Sarah London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) at No. 4, freshman My-Linh Nguyen (Potomac, Md.) at No. 5, and sophomore Heather Richardson (Holden, Mass.) at No. 6.
