Carney Garners NEWMAC Player of the Week Honors Babson Park, Mass. - October 10, 2011 - Springfield College junior Sam Carney was rewarded for her standout play last week as she was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week.

The Franklin, Mass. native had a tremendous week for Springfield as she went 4-0 at the No. 1 singles spot for the Pride. She started off the week with a 6-3, 6-0 in the team's win over Suffolk, before providing a 6-1, 6-1 win against Smith. She later cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win against Rhode Island College before she rallied for a gritty 2-6, 6-3, 12-10 come-from-behind win versus MIT.

Carney has now won six of her last seven matches at No. 1, and owns a 4-1 record in league play.
