Baltimore, Md. - December 22, 2008 - Seniors Jake Beebe and Sam Burrell were chosen as Inside Lacrosse/Face-Off Magazine preseason honorable mention All-Americans, which was announced on Monday morning.
For Beebe, this marks the second-straight season that he received preseason All-America accolades from the publication.
Beebe, a senior attackman, was a 2008 First Team All-Pilgrim League selection last season. A native of Sudbury, Mass., Beebe started all 18 games for the Pride and led the team with 65 points. Netting 30 goals and dishing a team-best 35 assists last season, Beebe’s scored three-game winning goals for Springfield. His ability to score in bunches was evident in the Pride’s first round game in the NCAA Tournament. Beebe notched five goals and five assists for 10 points, one off the NCAA Division III Tournament record for points in a game as Springfield downed Kean, 17-2.
A Cumberland, Maine product, Burrell is a physical defender that anchors the Pride's defensive unit. A 2008 First Team All-Pilgrim League selection last season, Burrell appeared in all 18 games, scooping up 28 ground balls to go along with 10 caused turnovers. Often drawing the opponents top attackman, Burrell consistently shutdown opponents all season as the Pride allowed 7.76 goals per game, including just 5.6 goals against Pilgrim Lacrosse League foes. He also added two assists on the year.
The Pride, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season before bowing out to eventual national runner-up Cortland State, will open up its season at Endicott on February 25.
