Women's Soccer Rises To 21st in NSCAA National Poll
Springfield, Mass. - October 18, 2011
- The Springfield College women's soccer team returned to the national ranks on Tuesday afternoon as it was ranked 21st in the country in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national poll.
Springfield has now won its last five games to improve to 9-3-1 on the season. The Pride had previously been ranked as high as 14th in the nation this season, which was the highest a Springfield program had been ranked under head coach John Gibson.
Two of Springfield's three losses this season have come to Amherst and Williams, who are currently ranked 8th and 10th in the country, respectively.
The Pride most recently defeated then-17th ranked Wheaton College, 1-0, on Saturday in a key New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest. Springfield will continue league play on Tuesday evening when it hosts Clark at 7:00 pm.
Head Coach John Gibson
John Gibson, a native of London, England, enters his 14th season as head women's soccer at Springfield College in the fall of 2013. Gibson has led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament in six of the last eight years and has established the Pride as one of the top programs in the country. His clubs have registered an impressive a 165-75-21 record.
