SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 25, 2007 – Springfield College freshman attack Kyle Gable (Somers, Conn.) scored three goals and assisted on three other scores for a game-high six points as the Pride downed the Cougars of Clark University, 18-5, this afternoon in its regular-season finale at Benedum Field.
With the victory, SC wraps up its regular-season with a 7-8 overall record and a 7-1 Pilgrim Lacrosse League mark. The Pride has secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Pilgrim League Tournament and will host the No. 3 seed on Wednesday afternoon, May 2nd, in a 4:00 p.m. semifinal start time. Clark University falls to 6-7 overall and 1-6 in the Pilgrim League with today’s loss.
SC came out of the gates firing in today’s tilt, totaling three goals in the first 3:34. The Pride’s first two scores came from junior midfielder Greg Welch (Peabody, Mass.) and were assisted by sophomore attack Jake Beebe (Sudbury, Mass.). Beebe also assisted SC’s third goal at the 3:34 mark, netted by senior attack Drew Ginsberg (Takoma Park, Md.). The Pride would go on to score twice more in the opening stanza for a 5-0 lead and never look back.
Gable, Welch and freshman attack Joe Heney (Plainview, N.Y.) finished the contest with three goals apiece. Leading the way in assists was freshman attack Joe Femia (Mahopac, N.Y.) with four helpers. Freshman defender Kevin Murga (North Massapequa, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Jay Brown (South Hadley, Mass.) tallied their first scores of the season in the victory.
Clark University was led by sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Campbell with 21 saves in 60 minutes of play. Freshman attack Garrett McAdam led the Cougar offense with two goals and one assist on the afternoon.
