BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Springfield College men’s lacrosse team took over sole possession of first place in the Pilgrim League with an 11-5 victory over host Babson College at MacDowell Field on Saturday night. Springfield jumped out to an early 4-1 lead, but Wilbur struck with just over a minute left in the opening quarter to cut the Beavers’ deficit to 4-2. Enright then assisted Wellemeyer before adding a goal of his own midway through the second, tying the contest at 4-4. However, the Pride netted three unanswered goals in the final five minutes to lead 7-4 at the half and then limited Babson to just one score in the final two quarters as the visitors came away with the 11-5 victory.
Now armed with a tie-break advantage over both Lasell (4-1 Pilgrim League) and Babson, Springfield essentially has a two-game lead in the conference standings. The Pride close out their regular season league play with games against Norwich and MIT next week, along with a non-conference tilt with local rival WNEC in between. Babson will hit the road for its final two games, traveling to Newton for a key matchup with Lasell on Wednesday and then finishing up at Wheaton on Saturday.
