Kelleher, Veazie, and Kaplan Named All-Americans

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – November 12, 2007 – The Springfield College field hockey team had a trio of its student-athletes honored as All-Americans announced on Monday.

Junior Jane Kelleher, the NEWMAC Player of the Year, joined teammate Brittany Veazie on the 2007 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-American Third Team.

There were also All-American selections announced by womensfieldhockey.com on Monday. Senior Emma Kaplan (Ridgefield, Conn.) was chosen as a First-Team All-American, while Kelleher was named to the second team and Veazie to the third.

Kelleher, who hails from Chatham, Mass., picked up third-team honors after an outstanding junior season. Kelleher led the team in points for the second straight year, as she recorded 57 points off 24 goals and nine assists. An All- American Second Team selection in 2006, Kelleher recorded seven game-winning goals this season, and was also selected to the New England All-Region First Team and the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team.

A native of Dexter Maine, Veazie was tabbed an All-American for the second straight year after a standout senior campaign. Veazie, a first-team selection last season, was second on the team with 52 points off 22 goals and eight assists, and netted a team-best eight game-winning goals. In her four-year career, Veazie was the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in 2004, an all-conference second-team pick in 2005, and a first-team pick for the past two seasons. She was the NEWMAC Player of the Year last season. She also picked up first team all-region honors this season.

In her final season in the cage for the Pride, Kaplan was also chosen as a First-Team All-American. Kaplan appeared in all 25 games for the Pride, and led the conference in save percentage at .858. A native of Ridgefield, Conn., Kaplan allowed just 19 goals all season and registered 115 saves.
