Wrestling Rises to Second in the NEWA Poll

Corey Kozimor Bristol. R.I. -- December 6, 2011 -- The Springfield College wrestling team jumped one spot to second in the latest New England Wrestling Association Division III poll, released on Monday. The Pride is just one point away in the voting from the top spot.

Johnson & Wales is currently in first place with eight first-place votes and 133 points. Springfield is in second place with 132 points and the remaining six first-place votes.

The rest of the Top 10 is as follows: Rhode Island College (108 points), Wesleyan (103), Roger Williams (72), Trinity and Coast Guard (tied with 47 each), Bridgewater State (42), Plymouth State (37), and Southern Maine (29). Others receiving votes included WPI and Williams.

SC is fresh off a third-place finish (of 12 teams) at the Petrofes Invitational at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa.

Next up, SC travels to WPI for its first dual of the season on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 7 pm.
