SPRINGFIELD, Mass., November 1, 2006 - Springfield College sophomore forward Jane Kelleher (Chatham, Mass.) has been honored as the New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Player of the Week, in a report released on Monday morning, October 30th.
This marks the third Player of the Week honors Kelleher has received this year, after she won the award for two consecutive weeks back on September 18th and 26th.
Kelleher, a graduate of Harwich High School, scored five goals as the Pride went 2-1 this past week. She scored two goals in a 4-0 victory over Plymouth State University last Tuesday (Oct. 24), and two more in a tough, 3-2 loss at Trinity College on Thursday (Oct. 26). She also added a goal in SC’s 4-0 NEWMAC quarterfinal win over Smith College on Saturday (Oct. 28).
In just her sophomore season, Kelleher leads the NEWMAC is goals scored with 20 tallies on the season. She also leads the league in goals scored per game, averaging one goal a contest. She is currently second in the conference in points with 44 and points per game with a 2.20 average.
The Pride is currently ranked 16th in the nation in Division III and is in search of its third straight NEWMAC Tournament title. Springfield will take on third-seeded Wheaton College in a semifinal game this Saturday, November 4th, at Wellesley College starting at 1:00 p.m.
