With the win, the Pride move to 2-0 while the Warriors drop to 2-1.
In a match hampered by constant rain and gusts of winds, the Pride and Warriors battled to a scoreless first half. With very sloppy conditions, both teams struggled to find their rhythm.
Springfield finally netted the first goal of the game with 47:58 on the clock off a free-kick opportunity. From 30 yards out on the right hand side, Delaney Cantrall (Santa Paula, Calif.) lofted a high cross into the box. Courtney Price (Enfield, Conn.), a 5-10 sophomore, rose up above everyone else and headed the ball past the Eastern Connecticut keeper.
Cantrall added her second assist of the night as her corner kick with 29:46 left in the game found the head of Nicole Hanewich (Smithfield, R.I.). Hanewich flicked the ball just inside the near post to give the home team a two-goal advantage.
Sue Jenney (Agawam, Mass.) posted her second consecutive shutout as she recorded four saves. Kim Church stopped five shots in the loss for ECSU.
The Pride return to action on Tuesday afternoon when it travels down the road to take on local-rival Western New England. Kick-off is slated for 4:00 pm.
