Russo, Bostic Earn All-New England Honors In Men's Soccer

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Dec. 5, 2001 -- Springfield College seniors Michael Russo and Derek Bostic have been named to the 2001 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas All-New England team.

Russo, a forward who hails from Holbrook, N.Y., is a second-team All-New England choice. He makes the All-New England team for the second consecutive season. Russo led the New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) in points per game (1.88) and goals per game (0.76), and tied for tenth in assists (0.35). Russo, a two-time NEWMAC Player of the Week (Oct. 8 and 22) and an all-conference pick, topped the Pride with 32 points (13g, 6a) and registered four game-winning goals.

Bostic, a native of Naugatuck, Conn., is a fourth-team All-New England selection at goalkeeper. An NEWMAC All-Conference selection, he ranked second in wins (nine) and third in goals-against average (1.32) in the conference. Bostic, who started 18 of the Pride's 19 games, also recorded six shutouts.

The All-New England team is selected by the coaches of the 49 Division III colleges and universities that sponsor men's soccer in New England.

The Pride finished 10-8-1 overall and placed second in the NEWMAC during the regular season with a 5-1 mark.
