AMHERST, Mass., February 4, 2006 - Springfield College senior All-American Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) won both the one- and three-meter diving competitions, setting a new Amherst pool record on the one-meter board (294.53 points), but it was the Lord Jeffs which edged the Pride, 123-120, on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 4) in Amherst, Mass.

Shaw once again took both diving events to remain undefeated on both boards this season. After winning the three-meter event with 270.90 points, Shaw then broke the Amherst pool record of 293.08 points set back in 1996, as the senior broke the mark by more than a full point, with 294.53 points.

Junior Paul McCloskey (Brookfield, Conn.) had a strong meet for SC, winning the 200 free, with a time of 1:45.19, and the 500 free, with a finals time of 4:47.59. Sophomore All-American Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda) also took home two first-place finishes, in the 50 free (21.59) and the 100 free (47.00).

Despite being edged in the dual-meet by the Lord Jeffs, the Pride won eight of the 13 total events at Amherst. Senior All-American Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) won the 1,000 freestyle event with a time of 10:01.55. In relay competition, SC's 200 freestyle relay squad of freshman Will Banulski (Bristol, Conn.), freshman Greg Pearsall (Litchfield, Conn.), junior All-American Chris LeCompte (Londonderry, N.H.), and Paul McCloskey took first with a time of 1:27.33.

The Pride falls to 6-6 overall after the loss as it next will travel to Babson Park, Mass., for a dual-meet at Babson College on Saturday afternoon, February 11, in a 1:00 p.m. start.
