Nelson Earns NEWMAC Softball All-Conference First Team Accolades

Springfield College's Melissa Nelson (Milford, Conn.)
was named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Softball All-Conference first team, announced Tuesday.
In 31 games this season, the sophomore led the Pride at the plate with an incredible batting average of .415. She racked up 44 hits, including six doubles and a triple, drove in 22 runs and scored 22 times.
The Sport Management major tallied a slugging percentage of .491 and an on-base percentage of .422 in her second season with the Pride. Nelson was instrumental in Springfield's success this season, as the Pride finished with a record of 20-13-1 and made it to the NEWMAC tournament as the No. 4 seed.
Nelson was also one of five members of the softball team to be selected to the conference's all-academic team this season.

enters her fifth season at the helm of the Springfield College softball program and as an assistant professor of physical education. Coming off her first ever NEWMAC title and a NCAA berth she has compiled a 102-69 mark with a .590 winning percentage. Read more
