Springfield, Mass. - November 23, 2008- The Springfield College Men’s swimming and diving team edged the visiting Middlebury College Panthers, 156.5-139.5, in a meet held at the Art Linkletter Natatorium on Sunday afternoon.
Leading the way for the Pride was sophomore Andrew Blakesley (West Springfield, Mass.) who had another exceptional meet as he claimed a victory in three individual events. Blakesley picked up victories in the 200 freestyle (1:50.55), 100 freestyle (48.79), and the 500 freestyle (4:57.86).
Also having a standout day for Springfield was freshman Brian Way (Beachwood, N.J.), who continued his exceptional first season for the Pride with victories in the 100 butterfly (54.51), 50 butterfly (24.36), and the 200 I.M. (2:06.41).
In the diving competition sophomore Brian Sobel (Stratford, Conn.) turned in another outstanding performance as he once again swept the diving competition. Sobel scored a 269.02 in the one meter competition and followed that up by posting a 303.98 in the three meter competition, more then 60 points greater then the second-place finisher. Both scores were once again national qualifying scores for the sophomore.
Ryan Mackstutis (Torrington, Conn.) also turned in a solid performance as he picked up a victory in the 50 yard backstroke (32.41), and the 100 yard backstroke (1:02.30). Teammate Josh Ernst also picked up a victory for the Pride as he won the 50 yard backstroke with a time of 26.69.
Springfield will return to action Friday, December 5, when they travel to the TCNJ invitational.
