The Pride earned 109 points in the coaches voting en route to its 19th place ranking. Bowdoin is once again the preseason favorite, earning 686 points and 24 first-place votes, while Tufts added 636 points and seven first-place votes. The Pride lost to Tufts in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
Winners of five straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships, the Pride enter the 2009 season with its eyes set on staying atop the conference. This year, the Pride will look to continue its dominant stretch with a more balanced attack of talented veteran players.
Looking to lead the way will be a pair of NFHCA Division III New England East Region Second Team honorees in Morgan Rein and Meg Bradley.
A talented midfielder, Rein had a breakout year for the Pride as she started all 23 games for head coach Melissa Rogers. Rein finished with nine points as she recorded three goals and three assists last year. All three of her goals proved to be game-winners.
Bradley was a force all over the field last season as she was strong on the defensive end, but readily able to dish out assists in the offensive third. She finished with 16 points off of eight assists and four goals.
