No. 4 Williams College Blanks Men's Soccer, 5-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 11, 2006 – The Williams College Ephs, ranked fourth nationally in Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), snapped a two-game win streak for the Pride, ousting Springfield College, 5-0, in tonight’s non-conference match-up at SC's Brock-Affleck Field.

Williams College improves to a perfect 10-0 overall on the season as the Pride drops to 4-8-2 this season.

The Ephs’ offensive onslaught left little room for mistakes in the SC backfield. Williams College senior midfielder Patrick Huffer struck first, netting a goal from the top of the 18-yard box at the 6:04 mark. The Ephs would find the back of the net twice more before the end of the half, first on a header by sophomore Pierre Meloty-Kapella (31:13), and then on a shot from junior Mike Darling. Huffer and sophomore midfielder Sam Empson recorded the assists on the second and third Williams goals, respectively.

The Ephs remained in control throughout the second half of regulation as well. Kit Fuderich and Huffer each tallied an unassisted goal, putting the game well out of reach of the Pride.

Williams outshot SC by a 23-10 margin, placing 11 of its 23 attempts on the frame of the goal. The Ephs also held the edge in corner kicks, earning six to the Pride’s two. SC had a few scoring opportunities in the match, including three point-blank shots on goal, but the team was unable to capitalize on any of them throughout the course of the night.

Pride goalkeeper Ryan Driscoll (Wilmington, Del.) put aside six shots in tonight’s match. His season record drops to 2-5-1. Starting goalkeeper for the Ephs, Jeff Castiglione, tallied three saves on the night, improving his season record to 7-0 with four shutouts.

SC returns to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action this Saturday, October 14th, as the Pride hosts the WPI Engineers. The 12:00 p.m. match will be the first of two in this weekend’s doubleheader, as the SC women take the field against Smith College at 3:00 p.m.
