Women's Soccer Climbs To 14th In NSCAA National Rankings
Springfield, Mass. - September 13, 2011
- After a 3-1 start to the 2011 campaign, the Springfield College women's soccer team vaulted into the national rankings on Tuesday as it was ranked 14th in the country in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national poll.
Today's ranking marks the highest that the women's soccer program has ever been ranked under the direction of head coach John Gibson. Springfield went from not receiving votes last week to being ranked in the top 15 in the country.
The Pride, which is currently ranked second in New England behind Williams, most recently defeated then-No. 18 Brandeis, 2-0, on Saturday. Springfield has also recorded wins over Lasell and Rhode Island College this season, with its one defeat coming to local-foe Westfield State. The Pride has outscored its' opponents 9-1 this year and has registered three shutouts.
Springfield will open up its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) schedule on Saturday afternoon when it travels to take on Coast Guard at 3:00 pm.
Head Coach John Gibson
John Gibson, a native of London, England, enters his 14th season as head women's soccer at Springfield College in the fall of 2013. Gibson has led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament in six of the last eight years and has established the Pride as one of the top programs in the country. His clubs have registered an impressive a 165-75-21 record.
