Season Ends With 1-0 Loss To Smith In First Round Of The NEWMAC Tournament

NORTHAMPTON, Mass., Nov. 2, 2002 - The Springfield College women's soccer season ended with a 1-0 loss to Smith College in the first round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament this afternoon.

Smith freshman Johanna Perez (San Francisco, Calif.) scored the game's only goal in the 7th minute as the Pioneers defeated the Pride for the second time this week.

Springfield senior goalkeeper Christine McCarey (Middleboro, Mass.) stopped four shots on the afternoon. The Pride end the season with a record of 8-10 (5-4 NEWMAC).

Smith improves to 12-6 (5-4 NEWMAC) and will face Wheaton on Saturday, Nov. 9, in the semifinals of the NEWMAC tournament.
