Women's Track and Field Ties For Sixth at Divison III New England's

Gabriella Gaudreault Complete Results

Cambridge, Mass. - May 7, 2011 - The Springfield College women's track and field team participated at the Division III New England Championships on Saturday and tied for sixth place with 44 points in the competition.

The host MIT Engineers won the event with 141.5 points, while Williams finished in a close second with 138 points. Tufts (96), Bowdoin (62) and Colby (46) rounded out the top five, while Springfield and Wheaton both tied at sixth with 44 points.

The rest were as follows -- Southern Maine (43), Bates (41), Middlebury (40), Westfield State (28), Amherst (22.5), WPI (18), Smith (13), Worcester State (11), Coast Guard, Bridgewater State, and Wellesley (8), Keene State (7), UMass Dartmouth, Trinity (6), Babson, Conn. College (5), Emmanuel (4.5), Brandeis, Fitchburg State (4), RIC, Wesleyan (2), and Salve Regina (0.5).

Springfield took advantage of several fine performances. In the 100 meters, Laurie Jenkins captured a sixth place finish with a time of 12.52 seconds. In the 400, Joy Jennifer placed seventh in 59.07 seconds. And in the 800, Lacey Cartier came in sixth in 2:16.43.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Kelly Curtis finished seventh in 15.13 seconds. In the 4x100 meter relay, the foursome of Jenkins, Kelly Murphy, Crystal Davis, and Erika Marks placed third with a time of 48.49 seconds.

Springfield placed third in the 4x400 meter relay with a 3:57.98. That included the quartet of Katie Schumann, Jennifer, Murphy, and Gabriella Gaudreault. Gaudreault ran a personal best in her anchor leg of 57.9 In the 4x800 meter relay, SC took sixth in 9:35.47. That foursome included Michelle Mirti, Nicole DeChristoforo, Jen Kapinos, and Molly Parshley. Parshley improved her p.r. from 2:30 to 2:23 in her leg..

In the high jump, Curtis placed fifth in 1.58 meters (5-2 1/4). Curtis also placed fifth in the long jump in 5.43 meters (17-9 3/4).

In the javelin, SC had a 3-4 finish. Curtis took third in 38.83 meters (127-5). while Colleen Brague was just a step behind in fourth in 38.59 meters (126-7).
