Beebe and Delia Headline Pilgrim All-Conference Accolades; Eight Earn All-Conference Honors

Springfield, Mass. - May 4, 2009 - Senior Jake Beebe was named the Pilgrim Lacrosse League Player of the Year while teammate Mike Delia was selected as the league's Rookie of the Year on Monday afternoon in a vote by the league's coaches. Eight members of the Pride garnered all-conference accolades, including seven first-team honorees.

Beebe, Delia, Jake Jones, Sam Burrell, Mike Smith, Tom Albano, and Pete Sessa all earned Pilgrim First Team All-Conference honors, while Chris Jez was named to the second team.

On Saturday afternoon, Beebe powered the Pride to its eighth Pilgrim Lacrosse League Championship as Springfield topped second-seeded Wheaton College, 12-7. Beebe pumped in two goals and two assists in the championship game after totaling five goals and three assists in the semifinals. For the year, the Sudbury, Mass. product and preseason All-American, has posted 70 points and he has totaled 32 goals and 38 assists.

Delia was impressive for the Pride in his first season as he quickly became one of the squad's top midfielders. A Wading River, N.Y. native, Delia has tallied 13 goals and 10 assists to go along with 36 ground balls. An athlete who possesses great speed and quickness, Delia has gone 45-77 (58%) on face-offs this season, including winning 20-of-27 (74%) over the last four games.

A local product from Amherst, Mass., Jones has been a leader in the midfield. In his senior season he has tallied 16 goals, including five man-up strikes. Jones has also added eight assists on the season, and was especially impressive in conference play as he tallied 10 of his 16 goals against league foes.

Burrell, a preseason All-American honorable mention selection, was one of the Pride's top defenders this season. The Cumberland, Maine native has a team-best 22 caused turnovers this season and has scooped up 35 ground balls. A physical player, Burrell has been crucial in the Pride’s clearing game as it has a clearing percentage just under 80% this year.

Fellow defenseman and South Hadley, Mass. native, Smith joined Burrell on the first team after another great year. Appearing in 15 games, he has totaled 45 ground balls, which is third best on the team. He has also chipped in with 13 caused turnovers in his senior campaign.

Albano has had one of the greatest seasons statistically in Springfield history as he owns a goal against average of 6.63, including a 1.64 GAA in conference play. The Ridgewood, N.J. native has 137 saves this season and has stepped up in several big games. A leader on the squad, Albano has an overall save percentage of .604 and a .863 save percentage in Pilgrim games.

Sessa earned all-conference honors after having a terrific year as the Pride's longstick midfielder. He ranks second on the team with 52 ground balls and caused 12 turnovers in his junior year. A key to Springfield starting transition and stopping other squad’s transitions, the Newton, Mass. product has added three goals and two assists this year.

Rarely coming off the field this season, Jez has been the Pride's top defensive midfielder . Jez, who hails from Somers, Conn. has won 58% (130-222) of his face-offs, and leads the team in ground balls with 87 on the year. A tough athlete who leads by example, Jez has recorded 11 points, including two man-up goals, to go along with nine caused turnovers.
