NORTHAMPTON, Mass., September 13, 2005 - Springfield College junior Meghan Kelly (Queensbury, N.Y.) picked up victories at #2 singles (5-7, 7-6, 6-3) and #1 doubles (8-3) as the Pride earned its first victory of the season, defeating Smith College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday afternoon, September 13, in Northampton, Mass. Kelly teamed up with freshman Melissa Weinstein (Allentown, Pa.) for the doubles win.
In doubles action, SC (1-2, 1-1) also earned a victory at #2 doubles, as sophomore Shannon Desroches (Belchertown, Mass.) and senior Amy Domurad (Merrimack, N.H.) won their match by an 8-6 margin. The Pride entered the singles matches with a 2-1 advantage over the Pioneers.
In singles competition, each team won three of the six matches. Along with Kelly, SC enjoyed singles wins from juniors Jenny Cameron (Belfast, Maine) and Heide Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.). Cameron won at #5 singles (3-6, 6-1, 6-1), and Eidse collected a victory at #6 singles (6-4, 4-6, 6-3).
The Pride will next host Wesleyan University in a non-conference match on Thursday afternoon, September 15, in a 4:00 p.m. start on the Appleton Courts.Doubles:
