Box score

BABSON PARK, Mass., Sept. 25, 2004 -- Springfield College rallied from a 3-0 second-half deficit but Babson came away with a dramatic 4-3 over the visiting Pride in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer game on Saturday afternoon.

Babson senior forward Steve Pagnotta scored his second goal of the game with just over 14 minutes to lift the Beavers.

Babson (5-3-1 overall, 1-0-0 NEWMAC) took an early lead as sophomore Derek Losi, Pagnotta and Alex Martin all found the back of the net in the first 34 minutes of action. Losi scored on a penalty kick at 14:30, Pagnotta netted his first of the day at 32:59, and Martin capped the three-goal run with a score at 33:53.

SC (3-5-0 overall, 0-2-0 NEWMAC) began its comeback with just 2:16 left in the first half, as freshman Colin Cook (Wilbraham, Mass.) ripped a free kick that deflected off a Babson defender and into the net. The Pride then pulled to within one when sophomore Matt Sullivan (Springfield, Mass.) assisted junior Zach Pereira (East Providence, R.I.) at 53:05, and Sullivan tied the game when he sent a penalty kick into the lower left corner at 57:49.

With their three-goal lead gone, the Beavers finally broke through at 75:53, as Pagnotta took a pass from sophomore Derek Marin and placed a shot in the upper right corner. The Pride managed to get a great look with 7:30 to go. However, goalie Chris Necklas blocked and then covered a rocket off the foot of SC freshman Pete Bianco (Patchogue, N.Y.) to preserve the lead and eventual one-goal victory.

Necklas finished with four saves in net for Babson, while BJ Sturdivant (Bear, Del.) and David Minkoff (Oceanside, N.Y.) combined for five stops in goal for SC.
