Shaw Wins National Championship In Three-Meter Diving
, March 21, 2004- Springfield College’s Mike Shaw
won the national championship in three-meter diving on Saturday night at the NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships held at Principia College.
, who is a sophomore from Westfield, Mass.
, scored 488.15 to win the crown. He is the third SC diver to win a national championship since 2001. The four-time All-American also placed second on the one-meter board (459.10). At last season’s nationals, Shaw placed third in one-meter diving and sixth on the three-meter board.
The Pride registered its second-consecutive top-20 finish, placing 17th overall (52 points). Kenyon won the team championship.
SC junior Louis Arruda (West Warwick, R.I.)
placed seventh in the 200 freestyle finals (1:41.93) to earn All-America honors. He also finished 15th in 200 butterfly finals (1:54.24). Sophomore Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.)
followed Arruda that event, finishing 16th overall (1:54.36).
