Cross Country Has Strong Showing at Purple Valley Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass (September 22, 2007) - Lacey Cartier (York, Maine) finished in 38th place out of 103 runners to lead the Springfield College women's cross country squad to a solid performance in the Purple Valley Classic at Williamstown on Saturday afternoon.

The women placed seventh out of nine teams with 306 points. Amherst won the event with 48 points and was followed closely by Plattsburgh which finished behind the Lord Jeffs with 50 points. Rounding out the group ahead of Springfield were Williams (67), Middlebury (94), Dartmouth (169), and Hamilton (270).

Cartier led the women with a 38th place finish in the 6k race with a time of 24:23. Others who competed for the women in the race included sophomore Amanda DiPaolo (Phillipstown, N.Y.) (39th, 24:24), senior Jess Borsotti (Northampton, Mass.) (70th, 26:11), freshman Amanda Mullen (Claremont, N.H.) (75th, 26:31), freshman Kelley Murray (Cohoes, N.Y.) (84th, 27:11), and freshman Tiffany Rozenas (Rochester, Mass.) (95th, 28:47).

The women return to action when they plan to race at the Keene State Invitational in Keene, N.H. this weekend (Sept. 29th).
