Springfield College to Host 2006 ECAC Division III Track and Field Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 16, 2006 – Springfield College’s Blake Field will serve as the site of this year’s ECAC Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships for both men and women, a two-day event starting this Thursday, May 18.

The ECAC Championships will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, and continue with a 10:00 a.m. start Friday, May 19.

A total of 75 different colleges and universities will be represented. A performance list of athletes may be viewed on the Springfield College website. The men’s list can be seen on Springfield’s men’s track site, the women’s list on Springfield’s women’s track site.

Thursday’s competition will begin with the men’s pole vault and with the first event of the decathlon, the 100 meter dash. The day will culminate with the women’s 10,000 meter run at 7:10 p.m., followed by the men’s 10,000 meter run at 8:00 p.m. On Friday, the day’s first events at 10:00 a.m. will include the men’s decathlon high hurdles and the women’s heptathlon long jump. The final event on Friday will be the decathlon 1500 meter run at 3:55 p.m.

Last year’s top 10 men’s team finishers included champion New Jersey City (106 points), followed by Cortland (53.5), Carnegie Mellon (43), Richard Stockton (38), MIT (33.5), Bates (31), Farmingdale and Rochester (29 each), and Coast Guard and Westfield State (26 each).

Last year’s top 10 women’s team finishers included Oneonta (48), followed by New Jersey City (43), Bates (38), RPI (37), Wheaton (36.5), Amherst (36), Williams (35.5), Cortland (35), host Springfield (34), and Southern Maine (28).

Head Coach Ken Klatka

Ken Klatka Ken Klatka, an associate professor of physical education at Springfield College, will enter his 38th season as head coach, and 44th as a coach overall, of the men’s track and field program in 2013-2014. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 447 wins, 156 losses, and two ties for an impressive .743 winning percentage.
