Ursinus Defeats Women's Gymnastics, 188.200 to 182.800

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – March 3, 2007 – Audrey Lastra (New Milford, Conn.) won the uneven parallel bars, but that wasn’t enough as the Springfield College women’s gymnastics team lost to Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa. this afternoon, 188.200 to 182.800.

Springfield is now 8-2 on the season.

Lastra, who had broken the SC school all-round record record in four of the past five meets, only competed in the uneven parallel bars today, coming up with a winning score of 9.500.

Others who did well for the Pride included freshman Ericca Castagna (Topsfield, Mass.) in the vault. She finished second with a 9.550. Sophomore Jackie Mazzola (Framingham, Mass.) tied for third in the vault with a 9.525. Freshman Brittany Davis (Shelby, N.C.) took sixth in the vault with a 9.325.

In the uneven parallel bars, besides Lastra’s first, sophomore Kristin Fairburn (Salem, N.H.) placed fourth with a 9.400. In the balance beam, freshman Alexandra Ploenes (Fletcher, N.C.) tied for third with a 9.425. Mazzola was right behind her in fifth with a score of 9.375. In the floor exercise, senior Heather Tuden (Londonderry, N.H.) took fourth with a 9.425.

Ursinus took 1-2-3-4 in the all-around, led by Kira Oldham-Curtis with a tremendous score of 38.275. Fairburn was the only SC performer to compete in the all-round, scoring a 36.750 to finish fifth.
