Wellesley Blanks Women's Tennis, 9-0

Springfield, Mass. - September 10, 2011 - The Springfield College women's tennis dropped its opening match of the 2011 campaign to Wellesley College, 9-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on SC's Appleton Courts on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue dominated the match. Melissa Clark defeated her counterpart, Sam Carney, at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Marie Watanabe handled Jen Cleary, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

It was a tough debut for Springfield head coach Toby Coffin.

Wellesley is 2-0 overall, 1-0 in the NEWMAC. Springfield is 0-1, 0-1
