Men's Swimming and Diving Cruises Past Union and Hartwick In Tri-Meet

Oneonta, N.Y. - January 9, 2010 - The Springfield College men’s swimming and diving team opened up the 2010 portion of its schedule by downing both Hartwick and Union on Saturday afternoon. The Pride defeated Hartwick by a score of 150 to 93, while topping Union 136 to 105.

Junior Andrew Blakesley had another solid performance earning victories in the 200 free with a time of 1:45.39, and the 500 free in 4:33.06. Blakesley also joined the 400 free relay of Jerome Cummiskey, Mike DeMellia, and Nolan Manley to top the field in a time of 3:19.14.

The 400 medley relay team of Travis Morse, Ryan Mackstutis, Brian Way, and Matt Manoni was victorious finishing in 3:40.94. Manoni was able to claim the 50 free crown, touching in 22.36. Soon thereafter, Way paced the 200 butterfly finishing with a time of 2:01.98.

The Pride continued its dominance as Manley finished first in the 100 free in 50.04. Cummiskey was able to narrowly defeat Morse touching in 2:07.26, just .14 ahead of his teammate in the 200 backstroke.

Springfield divers took first, second, and third places in both the one-meter and three-meter dives. Brian Sobel scored 260.35 points to claim the one-meter crown, followed by teammates Matthew Fitzgerald (249.40), and Kenny Pancoast (226.50). Sobel also won the three-meter with 310.70 points, followed by Fitzgerald (239.75), and Pancoast (222.65).

The Pride will now prepare for an important and busy weekend as it will swim three of the top teams in the region. On Saturday, Springfield will travel to the Big Apple to square off against NYU. The following day, SC will head home to host a tri-meet with Coast Guard and MIT, who is currently ranked fifth in the country.
