Finch Honored As NEWMAC Player of the Year In Women's Basketball

Corey Finch Named NEWMAC Player of the Year Worcester, Mass. - March 3, 2009 - Springfield College senior Corey Finch was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Year after a standout senior campaign for the Pride. She was also selected to the All-Conference First Team for the first time in her career.

This marks the first time that Springfield has had a player named the NEWMAC Player of the Year since Courtney Parvin was selected as the top player in the conference in 2006.

Finch, who hails from Hanover, Pa., had a terrific senior season as she led the Pride to a 16-11 record, including a 10-3 mark in conference play. For the season, Finch averaged 15.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game while shooting 46.9% from the floor. Finch was especially accurate from the free throw line, shooting 72-for-85 (84.7%) for the season . She added 55 assists and 38 steals on the year as well.

While starting in all 27 games this season, Finch scored in double figures in 25 contests and reached the 20-point plateau on five occasions. She also registered 10 double doubles, including her most impressive performance of her career at Mount Holyoke on January 17. Against the Lyons, Finch pumped in a career-high 27 points to go along with 11 rebounds on 12-of-14 shooting from the field.

In her final season for Springfield, Finch led the team in points (418), rebounds (238), field goals attempted (356), field goals made (167), and ranked second in minutes played (865).
