WELLESLEY, Mass. Feb. 23, 2003 - Springfield College sophomore All-American Megan Skinner (Acton, Mass.) finished first in three individual events and swam a leg on three victorious relays as the Pride won its third-consecutive New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship, hosted by Wellesley College.

SC, which established six school records at the championships and had nine individuals provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship, totaled 956 points. The Pride was followed by MIT (772), Coast Guard (578) and Wellesley (407.5) in the 10-team field.

Skinner defended all three of her individual titles in the 500 freestyle (5:06.13), the 200 freestyle (1:54.23) and the 200 backstroke (2:06.50). She also teamed with juniors Beth Byron (Haverhill, Mass.) and Jessica DeFoe (Monson, Mass.) and freshman Emily Phillips (North Windham, Conn.) to take first-place (and establish SC records) in both the 400 (4:02.31) and 200 (1:50.79) medley relays. Skinner set a school record in the 100 back stroke in the lead-off leg of the 400 medley relay (59.51)

Senior All-American Alison Mellage (Union, N.J.) swept the diving events, totaling 400.6 points on the 1-meter board and 427.75 points on the 3-meter board. Freshman Lacey Feduke (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) placed third on both boards.

Freshman Sarah Strout (Edgecomb, Maine) was victorious in the 1,650 freestyle in 17:57.03, which is a NEWMAC record, and teamed with Skinner, DeFoe and junior Marybeth Kuliga (Windham, Maine) to win the 800-free relay in a school-record time of 7:49.14.

SC's 400 freestyle relay team of Defoe, Phillips, freshman Alicia Hart (West Hartford, Conn.) and Skinner, which finished second, shattered the school record by over four seconds and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship.
