Worcester, Mass. - February 22, 2014 - Jack Lewis (Durham, N.H.) showcased his dominance on Saturday, winning the one-meter board to sweep both diving events at the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship at WPI.
The junior posted a score of 539.10 on the one-meter board to easily take first place. Lewis won the three meter board on Friday. Pat Smith (Niskayuna, N.Y.) took fourth in the event, posting a mark of 468.85, Michael Card (Fairless Hills, Pa.) finished sixth with a score of 437.65 and first-year Nick Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) took ninth (324.05).
Michael Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.) had another great day for the Pride in the pool, finishing second in the 100 breast with an NCAA "B" cut time of 56.28. Brad Mills (Enfield, Conn.) finished eighth in the event with a time of 58.50.
Springfield had a pair of top eight finishes in the 200 free as Jason Scotto (Southbury, Conn.) placed fourth in 1:42.44 and Hayden Cassidy (Ada, Mich.) finished eighth in the event (1:44.03).
John Vatkevich (Wrentham, Mass.) placed eighth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:12.71, Pat Geraghty (Holyoke, Mass.) finished ninth in the 100 fly with a mark of 53.06 and Daniel Fay (Yorktown, N.Y.) finished 10th in the 100 back (53.73).
Springfield finished the day with a fifth place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Geraghty, Fay, Normoyle and Scotto swam a combined time of 1:35.49.
MIT leads the field of seven teams with 1085.5 points, WPI is in second with 751.6, Coast Guard in third with 638.5 points and Springfield holds fourth place with 610 points.
The NEWMAC Championship will conclude on Sunday with the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, women's three-meter dive, and the 400 free relay.
